St. Anthony's Wrestling

       The Friars returned to the prestigious Brute Zac Jarzynka Memorial Ironman Tournament held in Oveido, Florida.  This tournament is ranked by W.I.N. Magazine as one of the premier high school wrestling tournaments in the country.  The team was paced by 103 lbs Senior Captain Chris Brienza, 112 lbs Junior Jimmy Morris, 119 lbs Junior Grant Greene, and 160 lbs Senior Captain Brandon Meisner.  Chris Brienza would drop a tough 3-1 decision in the semi finals to Aaron Hartman of Northside Christian High School in Florida.  Brienza would re-focus and finish in thrid place.  Jimmy Morris would rebound from last seasons performance at this tournament, where he was unable to secure a place on the podium.  Morris would make his presence felt as he tore his way through the tournament en route to a first place finish.  Grant Greene would repeat his impressive performance from a year ago and make it into the finals for the second time.  However he would drop a 5-3 decision to defending  Georgia State Champion Stephen Spradlin of Camden County.  Brandon Meisner would improve on his 6th place finish from the previous year.  Meisner would finish fourth and was able to turn some heads in the semi finals.  He dropped a close 5-3 decision to  defending Georgia State Champ Tim Gilbert also of Camden County.  When the tournament had finally ended the Friars were able to relax and taken in some Florida sun as well as a visit to Universal Studios.  The purpose of the trip is always to solidify the starting line up and allow them time to bond together as a team.
